Matilda Amanda (Smith) Nelson, 100 of Tabor, Iowa formerly of Quimby, Iowa passed away on January 25, 2019 at Glen Haven Home in Glenwood. She was born on April 10, 1918 in Sheldon, Iowa to George G. and Martha Elizabeth (Pohlman) Smith.

She was united in marriage to William Edward Nelson on August 22, 1941 in Sharkey, Mississippi. To this union two children were born, Robert and Linda. Matilda was a member of the United Methodist Church in Quimby and Tabor. She was a teacher in Sheldon, Iowa and later did soil testing for Simonsen’s in Quimby. She volunteered in many capacities in the church and library. She enjoyed playing bridge and reading.

Preceding Matilda in passing were her parents, husband, daughter-in-law Beth Nelson, siblings, Leroy Smith, Howard “Bud” Smith, Gertrude Summa, Glenn Smith and Irma Fukutaki. Survivors include her children, Robert “Bob” Nelson of Tabor, Iowa; Linda (Ralph) Reeson of Walla Walla, Washington; granddaughters, Bobbi (Tom) Sanders of Moberly, Missouri; Heidi (Brian) Stanley of Glenwood, Iowa; Nikki (Jamey) Clark of Glenwood, Iowa; 11 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; extended relatives and friends.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

    Sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. She and my mother, Margaret Winkler, were friends. I think they were in CIC together.
