Merrill Luther Johnson, 96 of Sidney, Iowa formerly of Bartlett, Iowa passed away January 4, 2024 in Sidney. He was born January 29, 1927 in Fremont County, Iowa and grew up near the Missouri River. Merrill faithfully served his country in the Navy. He was united in marriage to Emma Jo Rhodes on October 23, 1976 in Ankeny, Iowa.
Merril was a spray pilot for over 30 years in Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas. He also worked for several seed companies and devoted most of his career in the Agricultural Sector. He was a great storyteller and enjoyed visiting with family and friends.
Preceding Merrill in passing were his parents, sons James Edwin Hammers, Patrick Earl Hammers and step-son Wesley Scott Johnson. Survivors include his wife Emma Jo Johnson of Sidney, Iowa; sons Doug (Deborah) Hammers of North Liberty, Iowa; Lee Merrill Johnson of Phoenix, Arizona; Max Kirk (Lou) Johnson of Thurman, Iowa; Eric (Leida) Johnson of Glenwood, Iowa; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; extended relatives and friends.
Interment to be held at a later date.
Memorial donations may be directed to the family.

Max, Lee, Eric, and families, so sorry for the loss of your dad. No matter how long they’re sick or have to suffer, we still never really want to let them go, even though we should. RIP Merrill
Lee, Max, Eric and families- so sad to hear of Uncle Merrill’s passing. Unable to be there in person to give each of you a hug. I am sure there is quite a celebration going on with all the family gathering on the other side to greet him. Thoughts and prayers being sent.

Lee , Max & Eric. So sorry for your loss. Your folks were always more than nice to me. I’ll never forget them growing up as a boy on the River Bottom so many years ago.
