Opal Clowers, 86 of Glenwood, Iowa, entered into eternal rest on March 29, 2005 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was born November 24, 1918 in West Point, NE. to Carl and Emma (Poeshl) McReynolds.
Opal was raised in West Point and was a graduate of West Point High School. She was united in marriage to Roy Clowers on Sept. 24, 1938 in Glenwood, Iowa. To this union two daughters were born, Carol and Faye.
Opal was a faithful member of the First Christian Church for over 60 years. Her family and church were her foundation. She gave strength and assistance to others throughout her life by volunteering for R.S.V.P., church and youth activities. She was the recipient of the Governor’s Award for her many years of service to R.S.V.P. and was also honored as Glenwood Area Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award. Music was an important part of Opal’s life. She was one of the singers on the radio station known as “Melody’s Pals” and was in a band with her husband Roy. They thoroughly enjoyed singing, dancing and entertaining together for many years. Sewing and crocheting was another talent she shared with her family by making many items of clothing both for her children, grandchildren and their barbies.
Opal was preceded in death by her husband Roy in 1967, daughter Faye Alley in 2000, parents Carl and Emma McReynolds, brother Wayne McReynolds and infant granddaughter Debra. She is survived by her daughter Carol Jens of Brownsboro, Alabama, sister Pearl & husband Norman Abrahams of West Point, NE; son-in-law: Dallas and wife Mary Alley of Council Bluffs, Iowa; 7 Grandchildren, 10 Great-Grandchildren, 1 Great-Great Grandchild, several nieces, nephews and other beloved family members and many friends.
