Patricia Ann Verdoorn

A “Celebration of Life” service will be held for Patricia Ann Verdoorn, 90, at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, January 6th, 2015 at Peterson Mortuary in Glenwood, Iowa. Burial will be on Wednesday, January 7th, 2015 in Ashton, Iowa.

Pat Verdoorn entered Heaven’s Gates on Saturday, January 3rd, 2015 at her Comfort Care Residence home in Omaha, Nebraska. She was born in 1924 in Creston, Iowa, daughter of Willis and Mary Katherine Mote. Pat graduated from Roosevelt High School in Des Moines, Iowa and worked as a bank teller while attending Drake University. This was where she met the love of her life, Harvey John Verdoorn, while having lunch at a local diner where he was bussing tables for his room and board. They were united in marriage on December 31st, 1948. They were married for a wonderful 62 years until her loving husband preceded her in death on January 29, 2011.

Pat and Harvey moved to Spencer, Iowa from Rockwell City, Iowa in 1957 where they remained for many years. She was an administrative assistant in different businesses in the Spencer area. Pat was an active member of Eastern Star and a long- time member of First Christian Church in Spencer, Iowa. She enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, counted cross-stitching and painting ceramics with friends. Pat also enjoyed spending time with family and friends at their Lake Okoboji home each summer. Pat and Harvey loved taking cruises together and planned several memorable family vacations. After retiring Pat and Harvey spent many wonderful winters in Bradenton, Florida, enjoying the sun and sand.

Pat is survived by her children and their spouses, Robert (Marty) Verdoorn, Russellville, Arkansas and Barbara (Keith) Dilworth, Glenwood, Iowa; 5 loving grandchildren: Gretchen Gutierrez, Jameson Verdoorn, Mandy Lewellen, Lindsay Murray, Ketrick Dilworth; and 8 great-grandchildren: Carley, Lily, Connor, Samantha, Penelope, Wade, Henry, and Keaden; nephews and other family members.

Graveside Services will be held Wed. Jan. 7, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the Gilman Township Cemetery in Ashton, Iowa.
