Richard Vernon “Dick” Sletten, 88 of Glenwood, Iowa passed away surrounded by his family on May 11, 2020 at his home. Dick was born August 13, 1931 in Kramer, North Dakota of Richard Martin and Ferna Mae (Korman) Sletten.
Dick was a 1949 graduate of Bottineau High School in North Dakota. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of North Dakota in 1957. Dick faithfully served his country in the Air Force from 1952-1956. He was united in marriage to Ina Iris Knox on November 9, 1954 in Dunseith, North Dakota. To this union four children were born, Rhonda, Yvonne, Barbara and Kurt.
Dick was a Deputy Finance Officer for Offutt Air Force Base retiring on January 2, 1988. He was a member of the Harvey T. Rimel Post #141 Glenwood American Legion and First Congregational U.C.C. in Glenwood, Iowa. Dick enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time with his family.
Preceding Dick in passing were his parents and wife Ina on January 4, 2001. Survivors include his children Rhonda (Steve) Moore of Omaha, Nebraska; Yvonne Sletten of Glenwood, Iowa; Barbara Kimball of Carter Lake, Iowa; Kurt Sletten of Hot Springs, Arkansas; 3 grandchildren; Sean (Alexa) Tomair of Gretna, Nebraska; Megan (Josh) Wilhelm of Lincoln, Nebraska; Heidi (Steven) Bos of Papillion, Nebraska; 7 great-grandchildren; and many friends; Sally Allen of Glenwood, Iowa.
Memorials may be made to Harvey T. Rimel Post #141 Glenwood American Legion in Glenwood, Iowa.
Interment to be held at a later date in North Dakota.
