Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved One for over 100 years.

Robert (Bob) L. Parks

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice With Heart, 357 Indian Hills Dr. Glenwood, Iowa 51534

Robert (Bob) LeRoy Parks passed away Aug. 11, 2010 at Hospice With Heart in Glenwood, IA. He was born May 6, 1924 in Malvern, IA. Bob is survived by his wife June and their children and spouses; Brett, Richard (Jodi), Pamela (Lyle) Mayberry all of Glenwood; Patricia (Don) Donscheski of Omaha, NE and Michael (Judi) Wayzata, MN. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and sister, Doris Jean Wolf, the last surviving child of Thomas and Lorena (Lintner) Parks, many nieces, nephews, extended relatives and a host of friends.

Bob grew up in Glenwood during the depression in a family of fifteen brothers and sisters. The family was large and money was non-existent. The story is told that they were probably the poorest family in Mills County. It was a tough life, but he learned that hard work, responsibility and honesty would allow him to survive in a world where these traits are valued. He gifted these traits to his children and they have used them well.

After graduating high school, Bob entered WWII in 1942, first as a merchant marine followed by the Navy, serving until 1946. Near the end of the war he met his future wife, June Roe in Baltimore, MD and married her on June 6, 1946. He then brought her to Glenwood to begin raising a family. Bob and June took pride in watching their children grow up and raise families of their own. They also took in children of relatives and helped them when they needed it most.

Our father provided for his family by working for many years in the dry cleaning business. He retired on May 6, 1994 at age 70. Always having professionally cleaned and pressed garments were a staple in the Parks household, a fact that went unappreciated until we were grown and had families of our own.

Over the years Dad and Mom have made lifelong friends as they followed the horse racing circuit. The memories of trip around the country to be with these friends will always be treasured.

Dad liked humor. A conversation with him soon turned to the kids, especially if there is a funny story to go with it. He was fiercely proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved all of them very much and always asked how they were. He was interested in their lives and successes.

Dad succeeded too. Near the end of his life, he was surrounded by the ones that loved and cared for him the most. Thanks, Mom, for taking care of Dad.

We love you, Dad, and look forward to seeing you again, “IN THE WINNERS CIRCLE”.
