Rogene (Chapman) Johnson, formerly of Glenwood, Iowa, passed away in Lincoln, Nebraska on Oct. 2, 2014. Rogene was born in Silver City, Iowa on June 2, 1926 to Raymond and Elsie (Knight) Chapman. Rogene attended school in Silver City where she excelled as a student and was active in 4-H, marching band and sports. Sports were her lifelong passion and Rogene was a huge Iowa Hawkeye and Duke Blue Devils fan. She was also a dedicated reader with a special interest in mystery novels.
After high school Rogene’s family moved to Glenwood where her dad, Ray, worked for Mills County. Rogene married Edwin Lloyd Johnson on May 14, 1949. She worked for Iowa Power & Light for many years. After a short stint as a stay at home Mom she was employed in the business office at the Glenwood State School until she retired. In October of 2004, Rogene and Edwin sold their home in Glenwood and moved to Lincoln, Nebraska where they resided with their son Alan until her passing.
Rogene was preceded in death by her mother and father; sisters, Naomi Decker and Barbara Adams; brother, Marion Chapman and step-father, Marion Wise. Rogene is survived by her husband of more than sixty-five years Edwin Johnson; son, Alan Johnson of Lincoln, Nebraska, daughter, Kelly (Joe) Knight of Roseville, Minnesota and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sat. October 11, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Peterson Mortuary; 212 S. Locust St. Glenwood, IA 51534. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Glenwood Public Library.
