Ross B. Garrett

There will be full military rites by the Glenwood American Legion Post 141 following the graveside.

A memorial fund has been established.

Ross B. Garrett, 92, of Glenwood, IA entered into eternal rest on Sept. 10, 2011 in Glenwood, IA. He was born Feb. 1, 1919 in Hamburg, IA to Marion I.& Fannie E. (Brown) Garrett.

Following high school, Ross faithfully served his country during WWII in the Army. He served in North Africa in the Company I 34th Division was captured, and served 27 months as POW in Germany. After 28 years of dedication, he retired as a Colonel.

Ross was united in marriage to Evelyn P. Slagle on June 30, 1946 in Falls City, NE. To this union five children were born, Karen, Jeffrey, Julia, Mark & Matthew. Ross was employed as the Glenwood Post Master retiring in 1977. He was a Mason, member of the American Legion Post 141 and former Glenwood Cemetery Board member. Following the passing of both of their spouses, Ross was later united in marriage to Donna P. (Filkins) Lincoln on Feb. 9, 2004 in San Fernando, CA. They made their home in Glenwood and enjoyed the time they spent together.

Preceding Ross in death were his parents, wife Evelyn & 10 siblings. He is survived by his wife Donna Garrett of Glenwood, IA; children Karen L. & Larry Lincoln of Pacific Junction, IA; Jeffrey L. & Linda Garrett of Green Oaks, IL; Julia I. & Dennis Dickman of Bloomington, IL; Mark A. & Deborah Garrett of Harlan, IA; Matthew J. & Jane Garrett of Glenwood, IA; 11 Grandchildren; 2 Great-Grandchildren; brother Royce Garrett of Crofton, NE; sister Kathryn Melby of Atascadero, CA; numerous nieces, nephews, extended relatives and many friends.

    My father, Earl Andersen, was a good friend of Ross and served with him for many years in the National Guard. I have fond memories of the times we spent with Ross and his family. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
