Stella P. (Wood) Hendrix, 96 of Glenwood, IA entered into rest on November 5, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 12, 1919 to Ray and Dora (Spurgeon) Wood in Grant City, Missouri.
Stella was raised in Leon along with her seven siblings. Stella and Bill met the day he walked by her home while she and her mother were carrying groceries in the house. Bill stopped and asked if he could help and she said sure. After that day he never left. Stella was united in marriage to William R. Hendrix on Jan. 21, 1939 in Princeton, MO. Their marriage was blessed with five children, Larry, Gary, Linda, Janice and Harold. They had 71 wonderful years together. Stella was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She took good care of her family and enjoyed cooking and gardening alongside her husband Bill. The children and grandchildren all remember the wonderful smell of bread, pecan rolls and cookies baking in the oven. They all knew they were about to enjoy something good. The strawberry patch was full of sweet berries and they were delicious with the many gallons of homemade ice cream. The many fishing trips they all enjoyed. Stella always caught the first and the most fish! She enjoyed playing croquet, 17 point pitch and putting many puzzles together with her children and grandchildren. The flowers were growing everywhere you looked, some wild and some planted. Many were picked by Bill to give to her. She was also a faithful member of the First Christian Church in Glenwood and was active in many capacities there.
Preceding Stella were her parents, husband and six siblings. Survivors include her children, Larry and wife Marilyn Hendrix of Overland Park, Kansas; Gary Hendrix of Glenwood, Iowa; Linda and husband Norman Burson of Dallas, Oregon; Janice and husband Fred James of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Harold and wife Joani Hendrix of Emerson, IA; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; sister, June Steinman of Mount Ayr, Iowa; several nieces, nephews, extended relatives and many friends.
Interment will be held in the Glenwood Cemetery.
