Celebration of Life Gathering: Friday, January 26, 2024, 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M., Peterson Mortuary, 212 S. Locust Street, Glenwood, Iowa. Following the celebration, friends and family are welcome to gather at the Quarthouse Lounge and Grill for drinks, stories and Steve’s favorite pastime, karaoke.
Steven Arthur Eckhart, 70 of Glenwood, Iowa passed away January 22, 2024 after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Born July 27, 1953 and raised in Boone, Iowa, Steve was a competitive swimmer, avid golfer and the life of the party. He graduated from Des Moines Metro Community College before joining the railroad where he spent the large majority of his career.
Steve married Vicki (Brosnahan) Eckhart on May 1, 1987 and had two daughters, Shay and Aubree. The couple later divorced in 2015.
Steve retired from dispatching at the Union Pacific Railroad in 2014 after 38 years of dedicated service where he received numerous awards and was viewed as well-trusted expert in his field.
In the 8 years after his retirement, Steve spent his time perfecting his pool game, hand crafting speakers, and serenading his friends and partner Suze, with Neil Diamond, Barry White, Steve Miller Band and the occasional Travis Tritt song. Always good for life advice or an off-color joke, he prided himself on having the best coffee in town (even if it took years and 20+ coffee machines to perfect it).
Steve is survived by his daughter Shay (Kevin) Lohry, grandson Baker of Urbandale, Iowa; daughter Aubree (Josh) Filipek and granddaughter Ottillie of Council Bluffs, Iowa; life partner Suze Bolduc of Council Bluffs, Iowa; brother Elmer (Denita) Eckhart of Seattle, Washington; Duane (Judy) Eckhart of Gladstone, Missouri; Linda (Darrell) Boettcher of Newton, Iowa; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents Juanita (Bales) and Orris Eckhart, and sister Marilyn Miller.
Interment to be held at a later date.
Memorial donations may be directed to the family.

Our condolences to his family. He was such a great guy and was so fun to be around. Will miss your funny jokes and your singing. You will be dearly missed.
Steve E. Was one of the coolest & most intelligent people I have been fortunate enough to call my Friend. Steve was amazing in more ways than one. He could build anything. He could fix anything & was always ready to help anyone even if it meant putting himself out. And SING! Man-oh-Man could that guy sing! Not just Neil Diamond. He could sing anything and sing it well. One of my most cherished times spent with Steve E was our road trip we took to see Guns n Roses in Denver for his Birthday. I could go on for hours with Steve E. Stories. But I will leave this as is for now. Love Ya Buddy! Photo is of a few Lighthouse Gang members getting together at the Quarthouse in C.B.
Our sympathies Steve’s family. Steve and I went to school together. I would have loved to hear him sing again.
Rest in Peace.
I would like send my deepest condolences to Steve’s family and friends.I don’t think he ever met a stranger. I knew Steve from the casino, and recently caught back up with him at Radiation and Oncology with my mother. We would catch up between their appointments and recently becoming Facebook friends. He has always talked so highly of his girls, and the recent addition of grandbabies.I would get the joys of seeing new pictures of the girls, their little families, and ALWAY his grandchildren weekly. My heart is saddened for all of you,he was such a joyous person, and so positive. I hope the Miller light stays cold buddy!
My sincere condolances to Steve’s family,I knew and worked with Steve on the C&NW/UPRR many years ago,he always had the ability to brighten up your day, Rest In Peace my friend.
My condolences to the family. I swam with Steve at Boone High. We both swam butterfly and he was two years older than me, so he was the lead. Even at that age he treated me well and helped me out alot. Sounds like he became a quality person in life.
Sorry for your loss.
My family and I send hugs and prayers to the family. Whenever my husband and I ran into him at the Lighthouse we enjoyed visiting with him. Nobody but him had Neil Diamond down to a t. I enjoyed singing You Don’t Bring Me Flowers with him. Fly high Steve.
Steve was the best at everything he did. What a great guy. RIP

Heartbreaking to lose such a kind, talented, fun friend. And Wow, that voice, always looked forward to being entertained with whatever her sang. He was loved by so many and our world was brighter knowing him. Rest easy, Steve, you will be missed.
Though I have not seen Steve for years, I will remember him as a professional and fun guy who I shared railroad work life and laughs, with.
To the loved ones of Steve, I extend my sincere sympathy.
