Therlene Iola Yost was born July 14, 1925 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Harry and Thelma Yost. She was the youngest of their four children; Dale, Vesta, and Orlo, all who preceded her. She attended Bartlett school where she loved playing on the basketball team and there she met Fay Stouder. They were united in marriage on June 7, 1941 at Rock Port, Missouri. They had 3 children; Ronny, Wayne and Andrea.
They moved to Omaha, Nebraska where Fay worked in the packing house for some time until they moved back to farm by Bartlett, Iowa to help Fay’s father due to failing health. Fay and Therlene also lived in the Wesley Chapel, Red Oak and Macedonia areas before settling back to Pacific Junction, Iowa where they lived for 65 years.
Therlene worked side by side with Fay and his father for years on the farm, enjoying the field work. She also enjoyed feeding the guys lunches and suppers during the busy harvest seasons.
At 12 years of age she was baptized in the Christian Church at Bartlett, Iowa. Later in her life she transferred her membership to the First Christian Church in Glenwood, Iowa. Therlene sang in the choir there for 30 years and was a deaconess until she had health problems. She enjoyed sharing her arrangements of flowers with the congregation. She was also a member of the Friendship Circle of First Christian.
Therlene belonged to the Pacific Junction Federated Woman’s Club, Glenwood Garden Club and Burr Oak Ladies Club.
She enjoyed the outdoors, growing flowers in her many gardens and watching birds. She also loved to cook and bake for her family and friends. Therlene enjoyed hunting and feeding the hunters and their sons each morning with homemade rolls, donuts, and biscuits. She enjoyed listening to the hunting stories being told, the bragging and joking around her table. Therlene was known for her sweet cream raisin pies she would bake for the Southwest Iowa Sportsman’s Club banquet auctions.
As health took its toll she had to enjoy other gardener’s flowers. Fay would always pick wildflowers and bring in to her, even if they were pretty weeds. He would even try to slip new flowers into old arrangements to see if she would notice them.
Therlene always tried to keep in touch with her friends and family who lived away.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Fay, 2 brothers Orlo Yost, Dale Yost and sister Vesta Wredt, and a grandson.
Survivors include sons Ronny Stouder of Pacific Junction and Filmore, Missouri, Wayne (Linda) Stouder of Pacific Junction, Iowa and Andrea Poindexter (Richard) of Amazonia, Missouri. She is also survived by 8 Grandchildren, several great grandchildren, a sister-in-law, and many relatives and friends.
Interment will at 2:00 p.m. at the Thurman Cemetery, Thurman, Iowa.
Memorials may be directed to the First Christian Church, Glenwood, IA.
