Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved One for over 100 years.

Walter “Bud” Ruse

Bud Ruse, 86 of Randolph, Iowa passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2016 at Hospice With Heart in Glenwood, Iowa. Bud was born on May 2, 1930 to Olony and Mable (Walno) Ruse. He grew up in Iowa but spent many enjoyable summers with relatives on the family farm in Kansas.

After graduating from the Tabor Community School, he served for 2 years with 1-Company in Glenwood before joining the Air Force and serving 4 years in the military. During the Korean Conflict, he spent 14 months in the Far East. While serving in the military, Bud married Lorna Estes in 1951. The couple welcomed 4 children; Karen (Ted), Lee (Mary), Cindy and Kari Ellen (Rich).

After returning home from the military, Bud was self-employed as a certified welder and dirt contractor. His many earth moving projects included grading the golf course in Sidney, Iowa, installing culverts on Interstate 80 and constructing roads in the De Soto Bend National Wildlife Refuge. Bud also worked for local farmers to build terraces, dams and ponds.

Bud didn’t have many hobbies other than spending time with his family. He was an avid gun collector although he didn’t hunt. Instead, he enjoyed target practice and admired the craftsmanship and complicated mechanisms of the guns he collected. For many years, he thoroughly enjoyed tending his cow calf herd.

Preceding Bud in passing were his parents, grandson, Jamie and wife Ann Eyberg and grandson-in-law, Josh Gower. Survivors include his loving wife Lorna Ruse of Randolph, Iowa; children, Karen Eyberg and friend Ted Duchaine of Tabor, Iowa; Lee and wife Mary Ruse of Tabor, Iowa; Cindy Blair of Des Moines, Iowa; Kari Ellen Ruse and Rich Weber of Palmyra, Nebraska; nephews, Jake Ewalt and wife Darla of Ames, Iowa; Clark Ewalt and wife Joan of Omaha, Nebraska; 8 grandchildren, Melissa Gower and late husband Josh of Hannibal, Missouri; Jenna Esquibel and husband Chris of Shawnee, Kansas; Craig Eyberg of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Joseph Blair and wife Alex of Altoona, Iowa; Lorna Blair of Des Moines, Iowa; Evan Ruse of Clarinda, Iowa; Tyler Ruse and wife Jessica of Esterville, Iowa; Kirk Patton and wife Jamie of Clintonville, Wisconsin; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Wanda Ewalt of Tabor, Iowa; nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.
