Wayne V. Fasnacht

Wayne Vernell Fasnacht, 96 of Glenwood, IA entered into rest on November 16, 2015 in Glenwood, Iowa. He was born April 20, 1919 in Mills County, IA to Orville and Lottie (Meryhew) Fasnacht. He graduated from Rutledge (Missouri) High School in 1935 and attended Tabor College for one year. After graduation he worked on farms and orchards and did construction until October 1939. In 1939 he was enrolled in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Missouri Valley, IA. He left CCC in the spring of 1942 and worked in Omaha repairing office equipment. He was drafted in August of 1942 and was sent to O’Reilly General Hospital in Springfield, MO where he met and married Martha Barclay of Springfield on June 6, 1943 in Springfield. To this union three children were born, Karen, Dennis and Rebecca. Six weeks after Karen was born, Wayne was shipped to Cherbourg, France with the 165th General Hospital. While there he and Martha were unable to talk on the phone so they corresponded by writing letters every day for the 18 months while he was away. They kept these letters that sustained them through their time apart and their family still cherishes them. Once Wayne was discharged, they moved to Glenwood, IA and purchased a small home which over the course of the years, Wayne enlarged into the home they loved and lived in for the next sixty some years. He worked for Markie Harrington in construction and remodeling and continued to be a handyman in the Glenwood area until his retirement at age 80.

Preceding Wayne in passing were his parents, beloved wife of 70 years, Martha, two brothers, Virgil and Everett Fasnacht. Survivors include his children, Karen (Kenneth) McCullough of Albuquerque, NM; Dennis Fasnacht (Susan Putman) of Capitola, CA; Rebecca (William) Pugsley of Glenwood, IA; granddaughter Susan (George) Dallam of Colorado Springs, CO; grandson Kenneth MCullough, Jr. (Anais Chakerian) of Albuquerque, NM; great-grandson George Dallam and great-granddaughters Vivien and Audrey McCullough; 3 step-grandchildren; 11 step great-grandchildren; 2 step great-great grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

Interment and Military Rites will be held in the Glenwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the First Christian Church, Davies Amphitheater, Glenwood Lake Park or Mills County Museum.

Please accept my sincere condolences for the loss of Wayne. The Bible assures us at Psalms 34:18 that God is near to those broken in heart. He also promises that we will be able to see our loved ones again. Jesus own words found at John 5:28,29 tells us that. What a wonderful hope! May these Bible thoughts bring you comfort at this most difficult time.

Becky, I was saddened to recently learn that your father has passed. I remember your folks when I went to school with you. He was always such a proud supporter of you when in school. I also remember him working for Markey and they worked on my family home north of Glenwood. May you be comforted knowing he was a good and loyal father.
