William “Bill” Pavkov, 95 of Hastings, Iowa passed away peacefully December 13, 2022 in Tabor, Iowa. He was born September 30, 1927 in Doylestown, Ohio to Sandor Alex and Kathern (Boss) Pavkov.
Bill graduated from Malvern High School. He joined the Army serving with both Army Transport and the Merchant Marines crossing the Atlantic Ocean numerous times carrying supplies and the wounded during World War II and the Korean War.
Bill was united in marriage to Geraldine Kellar on December 22, 1950 in Jackson, Ohio. To this union three children were born, Susan, Ruth and William. He was employed as a truck driver and farmer for many years. He was Past Master of the Masonic Lodge, former mayor of Hastings as well as a volunteer for Hastings Fire Department. Bill enjoyed gardening, fishing, visiting and never knew a stranger. His family meant the world to him and loved every visit with all of them.
Preceding Bill in passing were his parents, daughter Susan Perkins, 3 sisters and 6 brothers. Survivors include his wife Gerrie of 71 years, children Ruth (Jim) Messinger of Glenwood, Iowa; William “Bill” (Ann) Pavkov of Hastings, Iowa; 8 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; brothers Walter and Ed Pavkov; many nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.
Memorial donations may be directed to the Hastings, Iowa Fire Department.
