Raymond Gary Yates, 73 of Glenwood, IA was born Nov. 3, 1939 in Glenwood, IA to Raymond Creal & Mable Phylura (Ross) Yates. He entered into eternal rest on Dec. 2, 2012 in Council Bluffs, IA.
Gary was united in marriage at the First Christian Church in Tabor, IA to Carolyn Powers on Jan. 2, 1960. To this union two children were born, Debra and Rodney. In 1963, Gary served in the U.S. Army until 1965. He spent the early part of his adult life in southern California where he did plumbing for the University of Southern California and later for the Los Angeles School System.
Gary and his family returned to Glenwood in 1979 and started his own business, Yates Plumbing and Heating. He was a member of the Glenwood Lions Club and Eagles Club. He loved fishing with his wife and other family members. Gary enjoyed gardening, but most of all story telling with family and friends.
Preceding Gary in death were his parents, son, Rodney Glen Yates, brother Wendall Yates, sisters, Allene Curtis and Pat Vohs. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Yates; daughter, Debra & husband John W. White all of Glenwood, IA; grandchildren, John G. White, Breanna White and Amanda Yates; siblings, Darrell & wife Roweena Yates; Don & wife Jackie Yates, Betty Hindman all of Glenwood, IA; several special nieces, nephews, extended relatives and a great many friends.
Interment will be held in the Glenwood Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established.

Uncle Gary will be greatly missed by not only his family but from all his MANY friends. I will never forget all the great times we have had fishing together and setting around shooting the bull. I will miss not only having a partner to fish with but a place to go for wisdom.
