Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved One for over 100 years.

Robert “Bob” Keith Henderson

Robert “Bob” Keith Henderson, son of Lester and Mildred (Wyatt) Henderson, was born Oct. 21, 1930 at home near Silver City, Iowa. He attended Frog Pond Country School thru the 8th grade and graduated from Silver City High School.

Bob joined the U.S. Marine Corp following graduation. He was active in the Korean War attaining the rank of SGT. Bob told stories of shooting the Big Howitzer Gun and driving trucks and operating dozers while on duty. He was very proud of the time he spent with the Marines.

After returning home, he met Carol Voss at a dance in Mineola, Iowa. They were married Oct. 11, 1952 at Carol’s family home near Treynor, IA. Bob and Carol lived on Pleasant Valley Ranch near Silver City where they farmed for 10 years. After moving to Glenwood in 1962, Bob began working for Iowa Power and Light Co. as a meter reader and then truck driver/lineman position. He retired at the age of 55. After retirement, he continued his electrical work wiring many grain bins in the area.

Bob was known for his volunteer work in Glenwood. He was a board member for the Glenwood Lake Park and was instrumental in getting the sidewalk placed around the lake. He was highly involved with the Mills County Museum, Keg Creek Days, Glenwood Library and the Senior Center, which he and Carol both have been involved with for over 16 years. They always refer to the Senior Center as their “second family”. The farmer never left Bob. He raised a vegetable garden every year and loved to come to the farm. He was always in awe of the big equipment and all of the technology.

Bob and Carol loved to dance. They attended many dances at the Palisade Ballroom in Mineola, Malvern, Mo Valley and Peony Park in Omaha. They enjoyed years of camping, water skiing and fishing all over the country. They loved their trips with the Heritage Club. Some of his fondest memories were snow skiing and snowmobiling with Bill and his entire family in Colorado.

Bob passed away Jan. 1, 2014 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa, reaching the age of 83 year, 2 months and 10 days.

Preceding Bob in death were his parents, sister, Betty Burgoin and niece, Gayle Hayden. Survivors of Bob include his wife of 61 years, Carol Henderson of Glenwood, IA; Nephew, Bill & wife Suzanne Burgoin of Silver City, IA; Nephew, Hoyt Hayden of Glenwood, IA and their children and grandchildren; nieces, nephews and many friends.
